The artist assumes that “the existence of Grandmothers is art itself ..."

Tatsumi Orimoto (Kawasaki, 1946) studied at the Institute of Art, California. In 1971 he moved to New York, where he assisted Nam June Paik and was introduced to Fluxus, he returned to Kawasaki in 1977, where he currently lives.

The performance Grandmother's Lunch has been shown in several countries in public as well as institutional contexts.

For the event at Folkestone the artist invited  "arty" Grandmothers to participate in a performance addressing issues of nourishment, creativity and age within the concept of inclusion and communication.

"Orimoto is a definite pioneer within performance art. In many ways he has been an avant-garde forerunner for some of the important strategies seen on the contemporary art scene today, internationally and in Japan." - Christine Buhl Andersen.
